State and Federal Help for Storm Victims

STATE ASSISTANCE

Iowa's Individual Disaster Assistance program can assist  people with low incomes. Iowans with household incomes of up to 130 percent of federal poverty guidelines may apply for a grant of up to $3,300 to help recover from tornado damage. This is a reimbursement program, meaning that applicants must include receipts for uninsured loss when applying for help.

For details, go to the Iowa Department of Human Services website or click here. You can also call toll-free 877-937-3663 to find out more.

FEDERAL ASSISTANCE

Assistance through FEMA is available in counties in federally declared disaster areas (currently Black Hawk, Buchanan, and Butler Counties).  For details click here.
