Due to COVID-19 concerns, all Iowa Legal Aid offices are closed to the public until further notice. Iowa Legal Aid is still operating and we are working remotely. If you would like to apply for our services, you can apply online at any time or call our application line 1-800-532-1275 during our application hours Monday - Friday 9-11 am and 1:30-3:30 pm, except Thursday afternoons.

Current clients can reach their attorney by calling 1-800-532-1503 between 8:30 and 4:30, Monday - Friday.

Iowans age 60 and over: please call our Legal Hotline for Older Iowans at 1-800-992-8161.

 

 

Iowa has interactive forms for divorce without children

The Iowa Judicial Branch developed a new, interactive way of creating Divorce without Children forms. You can find links to the new forms here: https://www.iowacourts.gov/for-the-public/representing-yourself/divorce/.

How to Get Legal Help

To apply for free legal help from Iowa Legal Aid, call 1-800-532-1275 Monday-Friday from 9 to 11 am or from 1:30 to 3:30 pm, except Thursday afternoon. You may apply online at any time. Offices are open 8:30 to 4:30 (emergencies taken when open. Iowans 60 and over may call the Legal Hotline for Older Iowans at 1-800-992-8161 Monday-Friday from 9 am to 4:30 pm.

People who cannot get help from Iowa Legal Aid may be able to find a lawyer through the Iowa State Bar Association's Iowa Find-a-Lawyer website.Attorneys taking part in Iowa Find-a-Lawyer charge a $25.00 fee for the first 30-minute consultation. If you need more help beyond the 30-minute consultation, you will need to negotiate a fee arrangement with the attorney.

Languages and Accommodations

Iowa Legal Aid's goal is to communicate effectively with
our clients. We can use:

  • large print;
  • Relay Iowa;
  • Free interpretation service,
  • language translation service; or
  • other steps for effective communication.

Interpretation and translation services and reasonable
accommodations will be provided at no cost to qualified
applicants.
