Position: Managing Attorney or Assistant Managing Attorney of Iowa Legal Aid=s Waterloo Regional Office.
Background: The Waterloo Regional Office provides legal assistance to low-income residents in 8 counties in eastern Iowa. The office staff typically includes staff attorneys, paralegals, support staff, an AmeriCorps member, volunteers and/or interns.
Responsibilities: The Managing Attorney/Assistant Managing Attorney is responsible for a wide range of legal and administrative responsibilities. Iowa Legal Aid is dedicated to providing high quality legal services in areas of priority identified by its Board of Directors. Priority areas include income maintenance programs, housing, health care, domestic violence, education, individual rights and selected consumer issues. The Managing Attorney is responsible for working with multiple funding sources. Iowa Legal Aid has a strong commitment to community legal education. The manager will work with other units of Iowa Legal Aid’s statewide program, including using new technologies to conduct client intake.
Qualifications: Preference will be given to those applicants with at least three years of legal experience, supervisory experience, background in and commitment to working with low-income people and experience handling claims in state and federal courts and administrative agencies. Must be licensed to practice law in the state of Iowa or be available to take the next scheduled bar examination
Salary/Benefits: Salary and rank dependent on experience, excellent fringe benefits.
