Who is eligible?

Survivors of the April 26, 2024 tornadoes in the following 8 counties: Clarke, Harrison, Mills, Polk, Pottawattamie, Ringgold, Shelby, and Union, and/or survivors of the May 21, 2024 tornado event in the following 4 counties: Adair, Montgomery, Polk, and Story.

What kind of help is available?

Free legal advice for survivors facing:

  • FEMA denials
  • problems with insurance
  • landlord/tenant issues
  • unemployment benefits denials
  • employment issues
  • contractor issues
  • identity theft
  • loss of income
  • other civil legal issues related to the tornado

This is a call-back hotline

After calling 1-866-761-4692, callers will be connected to the Hotline voicemail.

Callers should leave their name, phone number, brief description of their legal problem, and whether they are facing any deadlines they are aware of.

Callers will receive a call back from an experienced Iowa Legal Aid staff member to go through a screening.

Callers who meet Iowa Legal Aid’s guidelines will be connected with an Iowa Legal Aid advocate.

Depending on availability, callers who do not meet Iowa Legal Aid's guidelines may be connected with a volunteer attorney.
